A Reader Asks: The Internet Providers in My Area Offer Cable and DSL — Which Should I Choose?
Author: admin | Category: businessA reader recently left a very enlightening question on a blog. The blog features articles and postings about Internet service and Internet providers. This is what the reader said in his question: “While investigating the Internet service providers in my area, I found an excellent website that freely compares the offerings of many different Internet providers. Since there’s a cable company in my area, I wondered how cable Internet and DSL compare. Looking at the information, the cable was actually faster, but more expensive. My question is: How much speed do I really need? Is cable worth the extra money?”
The answer, of course, is based upon what a person does when he or she is online. For instance, does this person download a lot of music and videos? If so, they probably need a really fast Internet connection, such as cable or ATT Uverse. If, however, they spend most of their time merely visiting websites, reading blogs and checking emails and social pages, then DSL is more than adequate — and will ultimately save them money. A recent comparison of monthly fees indicated subscribers can save approximately $22 per month when they choose DSL over cable. This is just another excellent example of why comparison sites are so valuable. In this case, the comparison website compared not only prices but also connection speeds. In fact, it even gave recommendations for connection speeds based on the type of end usage.
